Lee Valley Athletics Centre set for £688,000 redevelopment

Lee Valley Athletics Centre in London is set to undergo a major redevelopment. Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, which owns the facility, is investing £688,000 in the refurbishment project.

The works, which are set to be completed by September 2023, include the transformation of the Ron Pickering Room into a dual-use fitness studio and meeting room, providing a space for both exercise classes and conferences and seminars, catering to the diverse needs of the centre’s community.

The centre’s strength and conditioning suite, as well as the gym and cardio area, will undergo major improvements that include more than £170,000 being invested in upgrading the existing equipment to Technogym kit.

Shaun Dawson, CEO at Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, said: “We are delighted to be carrying out this major investment project at Lee Valley Athletics Centre.

“This project, along with the recently installed lightning fast Mondotrack synthetic track system demonstrates our continued commitment to ensuring that this inclusive venue is maintained to the highest standards.”

Lee Valley Athletics Centre is part of Lee Valley Regional Park and is operated by GLL’s under its Better brand.

It is the largest indoor and outdoor athletics centre in the south of England and offers a wide choice of track and field facilities.
The indoor centre comprises the only indoor 200-metre track in the region, alongside 60-metre and 130-metre sprint straights, permanent seating for 500 spectators and full indoor jumps and throws facilities.

There is also a 400-metre outdoor track and a 650-metre floodlit Trim Trail that runs around the grounds of the centre which is designed to provide a well-lit training route for runners of all ages and abilities.
