Southampton Football Club has joined forces with sports investment firm Sport Republic and tech firm Yolo Group to launch a competition which aims to find and support the next “innovative sports tech startup”.
The Future of Football challenge is open to Web3 and sports tech startups and scale-ups which provide solutions to football development or fan engagement. A particular focus will be on those specialising in scouting, training, recovery, game analytics, as well as gamification, loyalty programmes, matchday experiences and global fan engagement.
Southampton FC will offer a four-week virtual programme — powered by Sport Republic and Yolo Group — to create opportunities for startups.
Selected teams will rapidly test and pilot their solutions, participate in tailored workshops, and have regular and direct access to Southampton FC, Sport Republic, and Yolo Group decision-makers. At the end of the four weeks, participating teams will pitch for a commercial relationship with SFC, which will include a £100,000 prize to help post-programme product development.
Sarah Batters, Director of Marketing and Partnerships at Southampton FC said: “Our commitment to innovating and creating a positive impact is central to the way we operate and make decisions. We’re excited to see programme participants create the future of football.”
Tim Heath, founder of Yolo Group, stated: “This programme is designed to push boundaries, to bring together a spectrum of solutions from startups around the globe.
“It’s a chance to create truly unique approaches — and test them. We’re driven by innovation; so, we’re looking forward to seeing the results.”
The deadline to enter the competition is 23 February 2023. To apply, visit the Future of Football website: www.f6s.com/future-of-football/apply
